Which numbers matter
| Stat | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Comments per day | The best single measure of how alive a community is. Members can be years old; comments are today. |
| Comments per post | Whether posts get discussed. Above 10 is lively; under 2 means most posts get ignored. |
| Posts per day | Competition for attention. A subreddit with 300 posts a day buries a new post within an hour. |
| Busiest hours and days | When the community is online. Posting just before the peak gives a post time to collect early votes. |
| Post types and flairs | What the community rewards: text questions, images, links. Match it, and use a flair if most posts have one. |
| Most linked sites | Which domains the community accepts. If no one links to product sites, yours will probably be removed. |
How to find the best time to post on a subreddit
- Enter the subreddit and choose 30 or 90 days (7 days is noisy).
- Look at the heatmap. Dark cells are the hours with the most posts, shown in your local time.
- Aim for the hour before the busiest window on a busy day. You get the readers of the peak without being buried by it.
- Check the top posts list for the format that worked, then write yours in that format.
Timing helps, but it matters less than fit. A post that answers what the community is asking does well at 3am; a pitch gets removed at any hour.
Compare subreddits before you commit
Run the tool on three or four communities in your niche and compare comments per day and comments per post. The best target is usually a mid-size community with lively discussion and rules that allow some self-promotion, not the biggest one. Use the comment search to see whether people there ask for products like yours.
What the archive can't show
Reddit stopped publishing online-user counts in 2023, and the archive doesn't keep a member-count history, so there is no growth chart. Private, banned and quarantined subreddits aren't covered. Very large subreddits can be slow; if comment counts time out, try a shorter period.
Data comes from Arctic Shift, a free public archive of Reddit. Your browser asks the archive directly; RedditQuora does not store your searches or the results.
FAQ
How do I see stats for a subreddit?
Enter its name above. You'll see members, posts and comments per day, comments per post, a weekday-by-hour activity heatmap, top posts, post types, flairs, frequent posters and the self-promotion rules for the last 7, 30 or 90 days.
What is the best time to post on Reddit?
It depends on the subreddit. Many English-language communities peak on weekday mornings in US time, but niche and international ones differ. Check the heatmap for your target subreddit and post shortly before its busiest hours.
Is subredditstats.com still working?
Its creator has said its data may be outdated since Reddit's 2023 API changes. This tool reads the Arctic Shift archive, which is updated continuously, so the numbers cover the most recent days.
Can I see how many people are online in a subreddit?
Not any more. Reddit replaced the online counter with a weekly visitors figure that only moderators see in full. Comments per day is the best public proxy.
Can I export the data?
Yes. Click Download CSV under the results to get posts per hour, comments per day and the sampled posts with scores and links.
How do I know if a subreddit allows self-promotion?
Read the rules panel under the results: it lists the rules that mention promotion, spam or links. Also check the wiki and pinned posts, since many communities allow promotion only in a weekly thread.
