How to check Reddit karma
- Your own account: open your profile on reddit.com or in the app; the karma total is under your name. Tap it to see post and comment karma separately.
- Anyone else's: their profile shows a total, but it hides the split and the history if they've hidden their activity. Enter the username above to see post karma, comment karma, account age and the subreddits the karma came from.
- Before posting somewhere new: add the subreddit name. The tool reads that community's rules and marks each karma or age limit as met or not met.
What the numbers mean
| Number | What it is | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Post karma | Net upvotes on posts, roughly (Reddit does not count every vote one for one) | Some subreddits require post karma before you can submit |
| Comment karma | Net upvotes on comments | The number AutoModerator checks most often; it shows you take part, not just promote |
| Account age | Time since the first archived post or comment | Common minimums are 7, 30 or 90 days |
| Karma per day | Total karma divided by active days | A very high rate on a new account can look like karma farming |
| Subreddit karma | Score earned inside one community | A growing number of subreddits check karma earned there, not overall |
How much karma do you need?
There is no Reddit-wide number. Each subreddit sets its own limits, and most keep the exact AutoModerator thresholds private so spammers can't game them. From the rules we see most often:
- Small and mid-size communities: usually no limit, or 10 to 50 comment karma and a few days of account age.
- Large or heavily spammed communities (finance, crypto, marketing, big default subreddits): often 100 to 500 karma and 30 days or more.
- Communities that allow self-promotion: frequently the strictest, because they attract the most spam.
If a post vanishes with no message, it was probably filtered for karma or age. Check it in a logged-out window, then read the rules or message the moderators.
How to get karma without looking like a spammer
- Comment early on new posts in the communities you actually know. Early, useful replies collect most of the upvotes.
- Answer questions completely. A three-paragraph answer beats ten one-liners.
- Don't post in "free karma" subreddits. Many communities ban accounts that are active there.
- Wait before promoting anything. Build a few weeks of normal history in the subreddits where your buyers are.

FAQ
How do I check someone's karma on Reddit?
Open their profile at reddit.com/user/NAME to see the total. To see post and comment karma separately, account age and the subreddits they are most active in, enter the username in this checker.
What is a good karma score on Reddit?
For posting in most subreddits, a few hundred comment karma and an account older than a month is enough. Over 1,000 karma reads as an established account. Very high totals matter less than whether the history looks like real participation.
Why is the karma here different from the profile?
The archive refreshes karma from Reddit on its own schedule, so the number can trail the live profile by a few weeks. The refresh date is shown under the results.
Can I check my karma in a specific subreddit?
Yes. Add the subreddit: the tool adds up the score of your archived posts and comments there (the latest 100 of each). Reddit itself doesn't show subreddit karma on profiles.
Why was my post removed even though I have enough karma?
Other rules can apply: minimum account age, karma earned in that subreddit, verified email, link or self-promotion rules, or a hidden spam filter. Read the rules and the wiki, or ask the moderators politely.
Does checking someone's karma notify them?
No. The lookup goes from your browser to a public archive. Reddit and the user are not notified, and RedditQuora does not store it.
